A loan modification cannot stop a foreclosure in process. You cannot wipe out hundreds of thousands of dollars in principal. You may be able to have your principal lowered a bit but that is not as easy as saying “hey guys, could you knock off a little of the principal too?”. The bank needs to see that the house is down in value and is not projected to go up in value for many years. Banks do not want to throw away money.
Loan Modifications are for only the high end houses. Not true. You can modify any home mortgage as long as that home is your principal residence.
A big lie is that you have to be behind in payments to do a modification. Not true. You just have to have a situation where there was a hardship and your financial picture changed to the point where you will not be able to pay the loan as agreed.
